Casey and I attended the PR Excellence showcase of award winning marketing materials and media. Fraught with technical difficulties, it was obvious that the presenters did not have time to figure out how to show videos or even look at how their PowerPoint presentation would appear, which was unfortunate because this program was supposed to showcase marketing excellence. The presenters persevered and there were some very nice pieces of work (USC's brochure with pocket for info., Torrance Library's delivery wrap, Burlingame's Adult SRP Jane Austen materials.)
My favorite winning entry was Monterey County's library mascot, the burro they named "Monte." He was chosen to represent the library because way back when their librarian used to deliver library services by riding on a burro! They developed a stuffed animal, created a costume character and the mascot became very popular.
This is such a great idea! What would our library mascot be? What would we name it?
We could have a bunch of grapes with a face, arms, and legs. I'm thinking a la The California Raisins, if anyone remembers them (dating myself here). Or, a grizzly seeing how the last grizzly in the state of CA was killed in Rancho (maybe we forget that and just say it's because of Bear Gulch).
